The Bloomington (Ill.) Pantagraph, the first newspaper to report on Charles “Old Hoss” Radbourn’s pitching feats, covered Edward Achorn’s acclaimed biography of the man, Fifty-nine in ’84, in a Sunday news story.

The paper reported: “The book is getting great reviews across America. They are so good, in fact, it may even eventually make Bloomington a movie locale, too. The book recently was optioned to a Hollywood film production company and, although still in the formative stages, Robert Downey, Jr. (“Ironman 2”) has been mentioned as the man to play “Old Hoss,” with Megan Fox (“Transformers”) as Radbourn’s devoted wife, Carrie.”

The paper quotes Achorn: “He’s an incredible character. A fierce competitor, stubborn, highly entertaining, loyal to a fault, with a wicked sense of humor and an amazing devotion to Bloomington. As for baseball accomplishments … he stands right up there with Babe Ruth.”
